Structure & Function of the Rib Cage & Torso: Posture, Gait, Movement and Integrative Manual Therapy Strategies
4 Contact Hour CEs, NCBTMB Approval Pending
$100
Based on the popular Posture Assessment Deep Dive Series, this workshop will explore the bone, fascial and muscular structure of the thoracolumbar spine and rib cage. We will examine the shape of the bones, the manner in which they line up to make the joints, the connective tissues that hold them together, and the muscles that move them. Using these building blocks we will explore posture, gait and several functional movements of the torso with a special emphasis on breathing dynamics. We will explore common postural patterns and the myofascial structures that lead to these patterns. We will perform gait analysis in comparison to the postural assessment. We will explore how fascial lines of tension telegraph across the body through the torso. We will also look at ways to recognize restricted fascia and tense muscles, even in areas where the posture is neutral. Students will be given a worksheet of posture, gait and movement checks to go through when assessing clients. The workshop will be generously peppered with Integrative Bodywork Strategies to address the issues found in assessment. These strategies are open-ended enough to allow the participants to address the issues they assess in whatever style/modality they choose. We will look at numerous examples of postural distortion patterns in a slideshow format but we will also be spending our time looking at the posture, gait and movement of workshop participants.
This workshop is part of a series of “Deep Dive” Workshops held by Alex in his studio space in Mt Tabor. As such, space is limited to 8 students.
