The Complete Line of Integrative Bodywork for the Manual Therapist Workshops

Since around 2010 we’ve been developing our line of IBMT Workshops. These workshops teach the same techniques, assessments and concepts in our textbooks of the same name. Our primary focus is keeping manageable class sizes for lots of individual attention to each student. The workshops themselves are a balance of anatomical nerdery, posture analysis, assessments and practice time on the tables. Our primary goal has alway been to elevate the field of massage and bodywork…we mean to End Mindless Bodywork!

We rotate through these 8 workshops about 4-5 a year. Please check out the Current Workshops page to see what we are currently teaching…if one of the workshops listed below is not on the Current Workshops, fear not, it will be most likely be in the next round!

Integrative Bodywork for the Lower Leg, Ankle & Foot

The foot and ankle are recognized as one of the most complicated structures in the human body. The effects of imbalance or dysfunction here in this specific area can not only be seen locally but any of the problems in a client’s feet can be felt throughout their entire body. Once our base of support starts shifting everything in the body has to compensate to keep upright against these subtle changes.  Add injuries and years of holding and compensation and you've got a recipe for plantar fasciitis, ankle sprains, arch problems, Achilles tendinopathy and so much more.  We are here to help clear up the mystery and support you in your exploration and being a bigger part of the solution for your clients…

The weekend will be filled with nothing but bodywork, assessment and treatment strategies relating to the structures, muscular connection and fascial patterning of the leg, knee, ankle and foot.  Highlights include ankle and knee joint mechanics and mobilizations as well as techniques and posture assessment for the deep, intrinsic muscles of the leg and foot. It is our goal that you will walk away from this workshop with a more profound connection and responsiveness to myofascial tissue.

Integrative Bodywork for the Pelvis & Thigh

Ida Rolf defined the hip joint as the joint that determines symmetry. We agree, and working with structures that surround the hip joint is such a crucial part of balancing our clients' structures and creating a more fluid, comfortable and functional body. It is easy to feel overwhelmed and intimidated when working with the pelvis but we are here to help clarify what the pelvis is, how it relates to the rest of our structure, and how we can work to create more ease in this crucial area of the body.

Our two day workshop will be filled with nothing but bodywork, assessment and treatment strategies relating to the structures, muscular connections and fascial patterning of the pelvis & thigh. It is our goal that you will walk away from this workshop with a more profound connection and responsiveness to myofascial tissue.

Integrative Bodywork for the Pelvis & Torso

We find that working to balance the pelvis is an essential part of balancing a client’s entire skeletal structure as well as creating a more fluid, comfortable and functional body. In our workshop we aim to help clarify what the pelvis is, how it relates to the lumbar spine, and how we can work to create more ease and mobility in this crucial area of the body.

This two-day workshop will be filled with nothing but bodywork, assessment and treatment strategies relating to the structures, muscular connections and fascial patterning of the pelvis, with an emphasis on its relationship to the spine. It is our goal that you will walk away from this workshop with a more profound connection and responsiveness to myofascial tissue.

Integrative Bodywork for the Spine & Rib Cage

So many clients we work with have issues with their spines and the myofascial web that scaffolds this incredible structure. Let’s unravel some of the mystery and complexity that is the human spine and rib cage and help our clients stand taller, breath easier, and face life with less parasitic tension.

Our two day workshop will be filled with nothing but bodywork, assessment and treatment strategies relating to the structures, muscular connections and fascial patterning of the thoracolumbar spine and ribs. Highlights include rib cage assessment during breathing as well as rib and vertebrae joint mechanics. It is our goal that you will walk away from this workshop with a more profound connection and responsiveness to myofascial tissue.

Integrative Bodywork for the Cervical Spine & Jaw

Between stress, car accidents, computers, smartphones, tablets and so many other factors, clients we all see have issues with their necks, jaws and the associated myofascia, joints and bones that are a part of this incredibly unique group of structures. Let’s unravel some of the mystery and complexity that is the cervical spine and jaw, and help our clients stand with their head ABOVE their shoulders.

This two-day workshop will be filled with nothing but bodywork, assessment and treatment strategies relating to the structures, muscular connection and fascial patterning of the cervical spine, head and jaw. Highlights include cervical vertebrae joint mechanics as well as intraoral techniques for the muscles of mastication and jaw movement. It is our goal that you will walk away from this workshop with a more profound connection and responsiveness to myofascial tissue.

Integrative Bodywork for the Shoulder & Torso

All too often we refer to the “shoulder” without even considering its complexity and yet so many clients we see have issues with this multi-joint structure. It is our goal for this workshop to help clarify the structures in the shoulder and give participants a strong foundation of anatomy, assessment and technique to be able to create shoulders that move fluidly and hang easily from the torso.

Our two day workshop will be filled with nothing but bodywork, assessment and treatment strategies relating to the structures, muscular connections and fascial patterning of the shoulder, specifically as it relates to its connections to the thorax and neck. It is our goal that you will walk away from this workshop with a more profound connection and responsiveness to myofascial tissue.

Integrative Bodywork for the Shoulder, Arm & Hand

This workshop will cover the intricacies, details, and relationships of the shoulder complex from its attachment at the thoracic outlet to its ultimate expressive end, the hand. Explore with us an integrated approach to problem solving one of the most commonly recognized areas of client complaint: the shoulder and arm. This small class, two-day workshop, will cover visual and palpatory assessment as well as application of fascial, myofascial, deep tissue, muscle energy, and mobilization techniques for the shoulder joint, arm, and hand.

At the end of this workshop students will have a better understanding of the posture and postural implications of the shoulder and a multitude of techniques for releasing, freeing, mobilizing and reengaging the myofascial anatomy of the shoulder, arm and hand. It is our goal that you will walk away from this workshop with a more profound connection and responsiveness to myofascial tissue.

Advanced Integrative Bodywork Workshop: Session Planning & Strategizing

Whenever we teach workshops the question always comes up: “These techniques are great but how do I put this all together?” This class is our next step to answering that question.

In this Advanced Workshop for Session Planning and Strategizing we are going to be exploring multiple session planning and full-session work with a client—helping you all to put many of the effective techniques you have learned together to best support the individual client’s needs through our treatment-oriented and holistically-integrated approach to bodywork. Our time will focus on session planning principles, structural strategies, postural observation, palpation, range of motion, one on one discussion of treatment planning and technique suggestions. There will be two in-depth full-session demonstrations, one by Alex and one by Jonathan. You as the student will have the opportunity to both give and receive two full sessions while being fully supported by us right at the tables with approach, strategy and technique suggestions. We will be giving all of you as much hands-on time, practical application ideas, and focused attention for each of your sessions as possible.

Prerequisites: In order to take this advanced workshop you MUST have already taken at least any TWO other workshops of ours. This is due to the fact that we will be building on ideas, techniques and strategies established in our regular workshops.
