Deep Dive into Torso Posture

Posture Assessment of the Torso

A Deep Dive into Posture Assessment (and some Myofascial and Movement Assessment too) with Alex Susbauer, LMT, BCSI.

Have you ever been to a workshop where the instructor quickly dissected a student’s posture and left most everyone wondering what just happened? Get confused about what exactly to look for when assessing posture? Want to know more about posture in a structured, check-list style format? Then this workshop is made for you!

In this small group, 3 hour workshop we will explore the posture of the hips, spine, rib cage and neck. We will explore bone positions in real and relative motion comparisons. We will explore common postural patterns and the myofascial structures responsible for creating these patterns. We will explore how fascial lines of tension telegraph across the torso to connect postural patterns in the lower and upper body. We will also look at ways to recognize restricted fascia and tense muscles, even in areas where the posture is neutral.

Students will be given a worksheet of postural checks to go through when looking at clients. This is a great tool when first learning to do posture assessment.

We will look at numerous examples of postural distortion patterns in a slideshow format but we will also be spending most of our time looking at the posture of workshop participants. Please bring or wear torso assessment appropriate clothing such as athletic shorts, sports bras, tank tops, etc. if you would like to have your posture assessed in class.

While this workshop is designed to stand on its own, it is a great complement to the IBMT Workshops involving the Torso, Neck, Hips and Shoulders.

This workshop is part of the “Deep Dive” Series of Workshops held by Alex in his studio space in Mt Tabor. As such, space is limited to 10 students.
